MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang on Tuesday said they would like to hear Atty. Karen Jimeno explain her position on the issue of midnight appointments in the Supreme Court.

Jimeno, a spokeswoman of Chief Justice Renato Corona's defense panel, previously signed a statement from the University of the Philippines College of Law faculty dated January 2010 urging then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo not to appoint a chief justice since it would be considered a midnight appointment.
“We look forward to her explanation,” Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said.

“If true, then it would be interesting given the change in perspective now that she is one of the spokespersons for the defense. And as we all know, one of the articles of impeachment is alleging that Chief Justice Corona accepted a midnight appointment."
