MANILA, Philippines - House Chief Prosecutor Niel Tupas Jr. confirmed Monday owning a house in Xavierville Subdivision in Quezon City but clarified it is only worth P14.5 million and not P50 million.
"Nakakatawa naman iyan. That's part of the black propaganda. Nabili last year P14.5 million last year, house and lot. May deed of absolute sale yun. Lalagay ko SALN, de-declare ko yan."
Tupas said it was not on his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) last year because he only bought it last year. It will appear on his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) that will be filed in 2012.
"Kasi 2012 doon mo declare yung as of December 31, 2011," he said.
Tupas said he could have bought the property cash but had to get a personal loan. "May utang ako diyan. Personal loan kaya ko bilihin based on stated net worth. Umutang na rin kami personal loan and lahat ng members of media pag natapos na yang bahay ko imbitahin ko para makita niyong di P50 million."
Majority Leader Boyet Gonzales told House media that about 20 congressmen, including the 11-man prosecution team, the impeachment prosecution spokesperson and some House leaders, have supposedly been singled out for demolition jobs.
