WATCH: Desperate dad seeks help for son who died
MANILA – A story of a man in a desperate situation touched the hearts of listeners of Radio dzMM on Wednesday midnight.
Marlon de Leon's 2-year-old son Kevin died late evening Tuesday after suffering from vomiting, diarrhea and high fever since Monday.
De Leon said doctors at a hospital in Malabon told him they could not revive his son anymore.
"Pagdating doon ininjectionan siya, nilagyan ng dextrose sabi ng doktor di na daw pwede. Patay na daw," de Leon.
For fear of not getting his son out of the hospital due to lack of money, De Leon said he decided to flee the hospital with his son's body, covered in red cloth.
De Leon proceeded to a charity home in Tondo, Manila to seek help for his son's burial. However, the charity home told him to just return the following day.
De Leon was later noticed by dzMM reporter Zandro Ochona, resulting in the father's story being shared on radio.
Radio dzMM's Jun Banaag, popularly known as "Dr. Love," asked the help of Department of Health Assistant Secretary Elmer Punzalan.
Punzalan then told De Leon to bring his son to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for the processing of the remains.
The city government of Manila, meanwhile, promised to shoulder the burial expenses of De Leon's son.
