Piolo-Toni film earns P25M on opening day

MANILA -- (UPDATE 2) Star Cinema's Valentine offering "Starting Over Again" starring Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga earned P25 million on its first day of release on Wednesday.

Star Cinema made the announcement on its Facebook page on Thursday.

"Maraming maraming salamat po sa inyong suporta at tulong! #StartingOverAgain 25M on its first day! To God be the glory!," the company said in a post.

Film director Paul Soriano, the longtime boyfriend of Gonzaga, was also quick to congratulate the film, pointing out the box-office figure is the "highest first day gross in Philippine cinema history on a regular playdate."

"Congratulations @celestinegonzaga proud of you! Congratulations also to @starcinema Piolo, Iza and to Direk Olivia Lamasan!" Soriano said in a post on Instagram.

In behalf of co-stars Pascual and Iza Calzado, Gonzaga, thanked the fans for watching the movie when she appeared as a guest on"Aquino & Abunda Tonight" on Wednesday night.

"Ang dami naming natutunan sa pelikula na ito. One of the reasons why you have to watch this film is because napakasakit talaga na harapin 'yung totoo pero kapag nagawa mo, napakasarap matuto," Gonzaga said.

Directed by Olivia Lamasan the movie tells the story of former lovers who cross paths again after breaking up with no closure.

"Starting Over Again" is part of Star Cinema's 20th anniversary.
