NAY PYI TAW, Myanmar - President Aquino urged the youth of ASEAN to use technology correctly in remarks before the ASEAN leaders' interface meeting with representatives of ASEAN youth.

In his address, Aquino said “the voice of our youth sectors is increasing in volume. Information and communications technology is growing at a rapid pace—and we all know that the youth enjoy a natural affinity with these technologies. Increased avenues for knowledge and self-expression naturally come with increased accountability. We must be able to use these technologies responsibly and judiciously— careful of scattering wrong or misleading information that will have negative results. We must do our utmost to use information technology as a tool of empowerment—as a means to actively take part in society and bring about positive change."

Aquino also took the opportunity to inform the ASEAN youth what his administration has done for the Filipino youth. The chief executive lists them as:

the Conditional Cash Transfer program,
the reform of the basic education system to K to 12,
the elimination of the 66,800 classroom backlog, along with backlogs in books and chairs,
the improved quality of higher education and empowering these institutions to maximize their own resources to generate income.
Aquino also spoke of vocational education. “We have improved the capacities and the performance of our Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, which provides the full array of vocational courses. “
The ASEAN leaders' interface meeting with ASEAN youth representatives was one of the meetings at the sidelines of the 24th ASEAN summit in Myanmar.
