MANILA, Philippines -- A romance-drama film starring John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo are among the five local movies that will be screened at an Italian traveling film festival next month.
The Olivia Lamasan-directed film "The Mistress" will be shown at the 2nd Moviemov: Italian Cinema Now, according to Emanuela Adesini, cultural attaché of the Italian embassy at a recent press conference.
The Star Cinema film will be joined by Manuel Conde's "Genghis Khan," Chito Roño’s "Dekada '70," Gutierrez Mangasakan's "Limbunan"; and the winner of the National Film Festival in Davao City, Gutierrez Mangansakan II's "Qiyamah," as the five Filipino films that will be shown at the traveling film fest.
The 2nd Moviemov will kick off with a red-carpet gala featuring Italian and Filipino film stars on December 4. The film festival will run from December 5 to 9 at the Greenbelt 3 Cinemas in Makati City.
Moviemov aims to create a lineup of films and events that will best promote in Asia what present-day Italian cinema is all about. Aside from Manila, the film festival has also traveled to Rome, Bangkok and New Delhi.
This year’s festival will feature Italian contemporary films and will also pay tribute to critically acclaimed Filipino films and directors such as Brillante Mendoza’s "Thy Womb."
The event will also include a competition of contemporary Italian movies to be judged by a jury of Filipino professionals, and roundtable discussions among Italian and Filipino filmmakers and producers.
