MANILA – Miss World 2013 Megan Young has lent her support to the UK-based newspaper The Sun, which has launched a campaign to raise funds for victims of super typhoon “Yolanda” (international name Haiyan) in the Visayas.

The Sun is encouraging its readers to donate as little as one pound to as much as 30 pounds via text message to its campaign, which occupies a space in the widely read newspaper.

Representing the Miss World organization and the Philippines, Young recently visited The Sun’s headquarters in London to thank the publication for their efforts.

“It’s a big thank you from the Filipinos. We just want to say thank you for the help that you have been giving us. It’s a simple gesture but it means a lot and it’s going to help a lot of people,” she said in a video uploaded on YouTube.

In voicing her support for The Sun’s “Yolanda” campaign, Young now joins reality show judge Simon Cowell and model Naomi Campbell, among others.

The official death toll from "Yolanda" is now near the 4,000 mark, with the figure expected to rise as many more remain missing.

Several individuals and organizations here and abroad have been extending their help to the Philippines, whether through sending relief goods, holding benefit shows or giving monetary aid.
