MANILA – A graphic video of animal abuse has gone viral on social media, with outraged netizens demanding action from the authorities.

The 20-minute video shows three girls taking turns kicking and stepping on a white puppy with black markings while it yelps in pain.

The video ends with the puppy presumably dead, immobile and no longer crying out as all three girls put their full weight on it.

As of this writing, the video has been posted on several accounts in social media, and has collectively gotten more than 5,000 "likes" and more than 50,000 "shares."

Angry viewers demanded the arrest of the girls and the person taking the video, while others expressed an urge for revenge in behalf of the puppy.

Others offered rewards for those who could reveal the girls’ location, and for their arrest.

However, some said they felt sorry not only for the animal, but for the abusers as well.

“I feel sorry for the three girls, I think they need to consult a psychiatrist,” said one commenter on Facebook.

The video has been submitted to media organizations and animal rights activist groups in a bid to find justice for the animal.

The origin of the video is as yet unclear. While it is currently being spread by Filipinos online, others have said that it was originally posted by a person from Thailand.

In 2011, a couple charged with crimes related to the production of videos featuring girls torturing animals was arrested by the police in Burgos, La Union.

The suspects were arrested after a year-long investigation by animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the National Bureau of Investigation.

They were charged with violations of laws on child abuse and animal welfare, among others.
