Check out Filipiniana fashion-designer icon Patis Pamintuan-Tesoro's newest collection for 2014.

I dropped by Patis Tesoro's recent exclusive fashion show launch at the Gallerie in Rustan's Makati and joined her hippie, Bohemian-inspired festivities.

Patis Pamintuan Tesoro

Patis Pamintuan-Tesoro is one of the Philippines' iconic designers. She is known for her Filipiniana wear and hand-painted designs.

According to her Wikipedia page, Tesoro is known as "the Grand Dame of Philippine Fashion."

Tesoro has made a name in creatively expressing classic Filipiniana into innovative designs using indigenous Filipino materials like abaca, abel tiniri, Mindanao silk and piña (extract fiber from pineapple leaves).

Tesoro celebrated her new home at luxe department store Rustan’s by unveiling her 2014/2015 collection with an exclusive evening of fashion and Filipino heritage.

According to Rustan's Dina Tantoco, Tesoro has redefined classic and conventional dressing to suit the tastes of her discerning customers.

"We are happy to welcome Patis Tesoro to her new home in Rustan's. Patis has an eye for detail and a knack for creating traditional Filipiniana designs for the modern-day woman. She deftly manipulates indigenous materials such as Mindanao handwoven balud, piña, and abaca to form elegant pieces worn by politicians, socialites, and a host of influential Filipinas," said Tantoco.

VIP guests and Patis Tesoro enthusiasts were all happy to join the Bohemian, Filipiniana-themed gathering. Everyone munched on sumptuous Filipino delicacies that complemented the colorful fashion show featuring her newest designs.

Tesoro took traditional shapes and silhouettes and combined them with a strong Bohemian aesthetic. The colors were intense and saturated; prints were loud and unabashed; yet elegance expressed in her creations. Swan-like models walked on the runway draped in hand-painted traditional dress.

There were about 50 looks of Bohemian Filipiniana pieces that complemented the event's psychedelic vibe. I enjoyed the free-spirited hippy take on classic Filipiniana style, especially the fashion show soundtrack of familiar 70s and disco-hit songs such as "Age of Aquarius," "Love Theme," and many more.

"Aside from dressing the who’s who of Philippine society, Patis has had her creations exhibited in France, Thailand, USA, Spain, China, Australia, United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Canada, and Japan. Where Tesoro goes, there are surely expatriates and foreign customers who clamor for her timeless designs," Tantoco said.

"That's why a name like Patis Tesoro naturally deserves the best. It is only fitting then that Tesoro’s pieces are now available at Rustan’s, the country’s premier retail destination.

"With a collection of homegrown and international brands already found in our halls, Rustan’s is the perfect venue for bringing Tesoro’s creations to a wider market," she said.

The move to Rustan’s could signal a new chapter for the iconic Patis Pamintuan-Tesoro label: a ready-to-wear collection that will no doubt be appreciated by a wider and younger market of shoppers in need of off-the-rack purchases made with her artful Filipiniana haute couture craftsmanship.
