7 Filipinos named Wonder Women of Style

MANILA, Philippines - Town and Country  magazine has named seven distinguished and accomplished Filipino women as "Wonder Women of Style and Substance".

Recognized for achievements in their respective fields are Cheche Lazaro for media; Gina Lopez for philanthropy and public service; Lea Salonga for music and theater; Margarita Fores for entrepreneurship; Isabel Caro Wilson, for diplomacy and arts; Bea Valdes, for fashion; and, Carmen Guerrero-Nakpil, for literature.

Lazaro is a broadcast journalist best known for her long-running award-winning TV news magazine show, Probe.

Lopez is actively spearheading the rehabilitation of the Pasig River and its tributaries as the new chair of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission. She is also the managing director of ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. which oversees the Bantay Bata public service program, among others.

 

 
 Internationally renowned theater actress Lea Salonga

 

Salonga is an award-winning theater actress here and abroad and is best known for her lead role in the West End and Broadway productions of "Miss Saigon". She recently starred in the Manila production of "Cats".

Fores is a successful restaurateur and high-end caterer. Among her restaurants are Cibo, Pepato, and Cafe Bola.

Former Philippine ambassador to Spain Isabel Caro Wilson is the president of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and is active in heritage conservation efforts.

Valdes has penetrated the international fashion scene with her uniquely designed luxurious evening bags and jewelry which are highly coveted by the A-list here and abroad.

Guerrero-Nakpil is a journalist, historian, and book author. She chaired the National Historical Commission in the late '80s.

The honorees are featured in Town and Country's September 2010 issue with personal testimonials from Maria Ressa for colleague Lazaro; Liza Nakpil for mother Carmen; Margarita Valdes for sister Bea; and, Teddy Locsin for friend Fores.
