MANILA, Philippines -- Actress and former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate Megan Young hopes to be among the candidates in this year's Miss World Philippines beauty pageant.
The 23-year-old Filipina-American, who topbilled the ABS-CBN drama series "Hiyas" last year, sent in her application early this week to compete in the local pageant that sends the Philippines' delegate to the international Miss World contest.

The deadline for the submission of applications to the national pageant was on July 15, Monday.
The coronation night of Miss World Philippines will reportedly be held in August, a month before the finals night of 63rd edition of the international pageant in Indonesia.
Last year, the Philippines' representative to Miss World, Queenierich Rehman, finished in the Top 15. Her predecessor, Gwendoline Ruais, is the country's last best finish in the international competition, having placed first runner-up. -- with a report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
