MANILA - Japanese singer-songwriter Utada Hikaru announced on Friday that she has given birth to a baby boy.

In a statement on her website, Utada described her baby as "a calm little boy who drinks and sleeps well."

Utada also revealed that she has been working on a new album during her pregnancy, adding that it is "going to take some more time before it is completed."

"Stay tuned!" she told her fans.

Utada married Francesco Calliano, an Italian bartender, in May last year. She ended her first marriage with Japanese film director Kazuaki Kiriya in 2007.

After releasing five Japanese studio albums, two compilation albums and three English albums, Utada went on hiatus in 2011.

The 32-year-old singer-songwriter is considered one of Japan’s most popular artists and has sold over 50 million albums worldwide.

Below is the music video for Utada's song "Passion," which was also used as the theme song for the video game "Kingdom Hearts II."
