MANILA – Continuing her advocacy efforts, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach attended a high-level meeting aimed at ending AIDS at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Wurtzbach said she is “proud to represent my fellow countrymen, but most especially the LGBT community from all over the world” during the meeting, which brought together representatives from government and various sectors.
“I represent the Philippines and the rest of the Universe,” she wrote. “I am so humbled to be congratulated and thanked by highly respected ministers and directors from all over the world.”
“There’s still so much to learn but words and promises are just words without actions, right? I am your student.”
In another post, Wurtzbach described the meeting at the UN headquarters as “an afternoon of panels and conversations on the importance of a Fast-Track approach.”
She also shared a photo of herself at the Philippines’ table at the UN assembly hall.
“Why am I alone here? Where are our representatives? Pero sige. Ako na lang. Kaya ko na ‘to,” she said in jest.
Wurtzbach has been working with various organizations to educate herself about HIV/AIDS, which she chose as the focus of her advocacy work.
LOOK: What Pia has done so far as Miss Universe
“To be a Miss Universe is both an honor and a responsibility. If I were to be Miss Universe, I will use my voice to influence the youth and I will raise awareness to certain causes like HIV awareness that is timely and relevant to my country. I want to show the world – the Universe, rather – that I am confidently beautiful with a heart,” she said during the final question and answer round of last year’s Miss Universe.
