MANILA, Philippines - To swim with sharks. To go to Kenya. To become a Twitter trending topic.
These are just some of the items on the bucket list of Alice Pyne, a 15-year-old girl with terminal cancer who has captured the hearts of thousands on Twitter, and in the process actually becoming a global trending topic.
Pyne, who currently lives in Ulverston in the United Kingdom, said she created the bucket list because "there are so many things I still want to do in my life... some are possible, some will remain a dream."
In her blog, which she has started only last June 6, she documents a list of things she wants to do before cancer ultimately defeats her.
"Mum always tells me that life is what we make of it and so I'm going to make the best of what I have and because there were so many things I still wanted to do, mum suggested that I turn my ideas into a bucket list," she wrote in her first entry.
Even with only two posts, Pyne's blog now has thousands of comments, many saying how her courage has inspired others.
"I don't sleep very well and I sat up all night reading them as they came in from all over the planet, every single one, and they have made me smile so much so that is a good thing," she said.
Her blog and bucket list has gone viral on Twitter, and in the process, has become a trending topic--fulfilling one item on her list. It has even become a local trending topic in the Philippines.
Some of those who tweeted about her blog, with the help of the hashtag #alicebucketlist, are ABC News anchor Terry Moran, actor Channing Tatum, and NFL starting receiver Jeremy Maclin.
Despite her condition, she said that the blog isn't meant for her to solicit help.
"There isn't a Paypal or Donate button on here, because I didn't mean for this to be such a big thing. It was just so that I could write on here and do the things I wanted to do and my friends could read about them, which I'm still going to do," she wrote.
She said, the best thing that her blog has done is to raise awareness about bone marrow donation.
"I'm excited about the things I am going to be doing, but the biggest thing has to be all the people who are joining bone marrow donation schemes because of me," she wrote.
She said, she's "not expecting to do everything" on her list, given her condition, but she said she'll try to do as much as she can. Kris Danielle Suarez, abs-cbnNEWS.com
