MANILA – The color ecru will serve as the unifying theme for the family of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte at his inauguration ceremony on June 30.
Lisette Marques, officer in charge at the City Tourism Operations Office of Davao, said the initial recommendation of the inauguration team is for members of Duterte’s family to wear Filipiniana and Barong Tagalog in this hue.
“Everybody will be in Filipiniana, but in ecru, just so we can show unity,” Marques told ABS-CBN News. “Iyong mga lalaki, barong lahat [ang isusuot].”
Marques noted that they do not want any member of the family to attract too much attention as Duterte, who is known for his simple lifestyle, takes his oath as President.
“Of course, we want a united family… It will send a good message to the Filipino people,” she said.
Duterte will likely wear a Barong Tagalog in piña-jusi fabric from Chardin, his go-to place for his outfits, during his inauguration.
Designers at Chardin said the tough-talking Davao City mayor wants to have Mindanao’s ethnic patterns shown in his formal wear.
But nothing is final yet – his partner, Cielito “Honeylet” Avanceña, gets to decide what Duterte will wear during his term.
Avanceña and her team have gathered some of Davao’s top designers to come up with the incoming president’s new looks. – With a report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
