MANILA – Model and up and coming recording artist Claudia Barretto has left the Philippines on her own to do “mission work” in the United States.
This was revealed by her mother, former actress Marjorie Barretto, via her Instagram page on Tuesday.
Posting a photo of herself with her daughter at the airport, Marjorie wrote: “This is me saying goodbye to Claudia who is traveling on her own. I wanted to jump on the plane with her. But I guess that part of being a good parent is allowing your child to explore and grow. Letting go is never easy… My heart breaks.”
“My daughter Claudia decided to spend her summer doing mission work in the States. I was tempted to say no, but how could I? Her heart was in the right place.”
Marjorie went on to say that she is proud of her daughter and told her to “have the best summer of your life.”
She did not give further details about Claudia’s “mission work.”
Claudia is the younger sister of actress Julia Barretto. The two were dubbed by fans as the Philippines’ version of the stylish celebrity siblings Kendall and Kylie Jenner as they appeared together on the cover of a local magazine.

Late last month, Claudia started recording for her debut album under Universal Records.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” Claudia has said. “I decided that it was time to start making music.”
Claudia’s other celebrity connections include her aunts Claudine and Gretchen Barretto, who are both actresses.
