MANILA, Philippines – Stress caused by politics can make a person look old, but not Senator Loren Legarda, who always looks young and radiant in front of the camera.
Legarda is actually the same age as President Benigno Aquino III, who has been teased by many, including his sister Kris, about his baldness.
“I am 52 now now. I never hide my age,” she said in an interview on ANC’s “Headstart” on Wednesday.
Most celebrities turn to facelifts and other treatments to look young, but not Legarda, an environmentalist who prefers to keep things natural.
“No, I’m too scared [to have a facelift]. There’s nothing wrong [with it], but I’m too scared,” she said.
So where does Legarda get her natural glow?
“I drink lots of water, and I don’t buy bottled water. I drink alkaline water. I’m a water person so I go to the bathroom every hour," she said.
“I don’t crave for sweets. I don’t like chocolates. I don’t drink cola. I eat a lot of vegetables grown in my backyard. Malunggay, saluyot.
“I don’t eat anything white. Even my crackers are brown. I eat brown rice but I’m trying to stay away from any carbs now.
“I hardly eat meat. I don’t even crave for steaks. Gusto ko lang dulong o tulingan o inihaw na maski anong isda. As much as possible, hindi oily,” she added.
Aside from a strict diet, Legarda said she also makes it a point to exercise through yoga. “I used to do a lot of yoga every day. I need to return to that regimen effective today,” she said.
The fresh-faced senator, however, has yet to find a suitable partner since her previous marriage.
“There are those people who are lucky to find love the second time around. Let me just put this very clearly – I am single by judicial decree,” she said, quoting Justice Secretary Leila de Lima.
She does not go on regular dates, either. “No. [Not in the past] ten, seven years. Who would you date in this town, in this city? Either they’re married, or not worth it.”
Asked if she is open to going out with younger men, she said: “I’m not a cougar.”
