In a sudden change of mind, internationally acclaimed filmmaker Brillante Mendoza recently decided to bring along the stars of his newest masterpiece “Kinatay (The Execution of P)” set to compete at the Palm d'Or derby of the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Instead of going solo, Mendoza will bring the whole cast along, including Coco Martin, Maria Isabel Lopez and Mercedes Cabral to the prestigious international film event.

Mendoza will only have to take care of the cast's plane fares since the Cannes reception committee will reportedly offer free transportation, food, and hotel accommodations. “Bahala na. Marami namang tutulong. Karangalan ito ng bansa natin kaya may mga tao na very supportive of the cause,” said Mendoza, referring to the cast's travel funds.

But the real star of the occasion may be Cabral, who is excited about her second Cannes appearance since she represented the country in another Mendoza film "Serbis" last year. She was voted online as the "Most Beautiful Actress" who walked the Cannes event's red carpet, besting other equally captivating and more established international celebrities like Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Linda Evangelista, Penelope Cruz, and Salma Hayek.

She instantly became every photographer's delight, and was hounded by the papparazzi and sought out by media reporters from around the world.

“Sana po, ngayong taon na ito, ako uli ang manalo sa on line voting. Nakaka-excite. I am bringing honor to our country. At saka, sino ba naman ako para matalo sina Salma Hayek,” Mercedes quipped.

Aside from representing “Kinatay (The Execution of P),” she is also featured in the South Korean film “Thirst” directed by award-winning director Park Chan-Wook. Park won the 2004 Cannes Palm d’Or for his film “Old Boy.”

“Sabay-sabay nga po ang magandang dating ng kapalaran. I hope I can give justice to both of my roles. In 'Kinatay' I play a very significant role in the murder of Maribel Lopez while in ‘Thirst,’ I essay the role of a Filipina married to a Korean,” explained Cabral.

She is slated to fly to Cannes on May 15 or 16 and is currently waiting for her travel documents to be readied.
