MANILA – After Floyd Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquiao in their super-fight on Sunday, beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach vowed to “avenge” the Philippines when she represents the country in this year’s Miss Universe pageant.
On Twitter, Wurtzbach expressed what she thought of the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight which saw the American boxer became the unified welterweight champion of the world as he retained the WBC and the WBA welterweight championships.
Wurtzbach then told her followers to just calm down as she will do her best to bring glory for the Philippines in the upcoming international pageant.
“Kalma lang guys. Ako bahala. Babawi tayo sa Miss Universe!!” she said.
Aside from Wurtzbach’s tweets, the Instagram post of American beauty queen Olivia Culpo showing her “face-off” with Philippine bet Janine Tugonon back when they competed for the Miss Universe crown in 2012 also caught a lot of attention.
Culpo and Tugonon’s photo was posted side by side with the Pacquiao and Mayweather face-off.
In the caption, Culpo wrote: “It's fight night people! #Throwback to me and Miss Philippines doing our best face off.”
As of writing, Culpo’s post already has more than 23,000 “likes” and over 2,000 comments.
Both Americans defeated the Philippine bets in boxing and in Miss Universe.
