Manila plays host to Philippine International Jazzfest 2009

Manila plays host to the Philippine International Jazzfest 2009, the biggest and most exciting gathering of international and local jazz artists in one month-long music festival.

The Philippine International Jazz and Arts Festival 2009 is sure to be one grand event which boasts of featuring 14 international jazz artists plus 30 local artists for its festival.

The jazziest event this year with a powerhouse lineup of performers from all over the world, starting with the Festival Nights with a wine and cheese festival from March 1 to 2, 5:30 pm at the Rockwell Tent.

The first night features Pinoy jazz artists Humanfolk, Brigada, Asian Jazz Divas, Brass Munkeys followed by powerhouse performances by one of Japan's most captivating pianists, Hiromi and her band Sonicbloom, singer-songwriter-pianist Laurence Elder plus jazz icon and forerunner of today's smooth jazz stylings, Spyro Gyra.

The following night is set to stir the soul with a feature performance by singer and celebrated songwriter Dianne Reeves and premiere jazz fusion guitarist and four-time Grammy nominee Mike Stern. Tickets are available at P2,000.

As part of the not-to-miss month-long festival, PIJF will also be having an embassy mall tour on February 27 headlined by jazz artists from around the world - Sacbe, Laurence Elder, Amir Gwirtzman, Fabio Turchetti and a host of others.

To formally open the festival is the 'International Jazz Gala' at the Mandarin Oriental's Captain's Bar on February 26, with a diverse lineup of performers bonded by their common love for jazz music - Laurence Elder, Marcel Worms, Chieko Fukuda, Amir Gwirtzman, Sacbé, Jazz Divas of Asia, Tots Tolentino and many others.

They recently had a series of campus tours at the University of the Philippines, University of Sto. Tomas and Far Eastern University with jazz artists Laurence Elder, Amir Gwirtzman, Sacbe and Marcel Worms were they had an opportunity to bond with the students, professionals and anyone within jazz music reach.

They also had a Gospel Workshop with Ray Sidney, Bola and Kookie Taylor where attendees learned from the style of performing to a little bit of its history.

An interesting 300-member Black Gospel Choir will be performing with Juan Isip and Logic on February 28, 5pm at Eastwood City. Also, catch the following FREE Jazz Workshops: March 1, 1pm at Dencio's, Rockwell Plaza with Hiromi and Mike Stern, March 2 , 1pm at Dencio's, Rockwell Plaza with Dave Weckl and Charito.

On March 3, 9pm there will be an open to the public "Friendship Jam" with Filipino and International artists at the Strumms. All jazz lovers and friends are welcome to join.
