MANILA – Internet users in the Philippines are seeking for more prayers for Pangasinan following a report on a so-called flesh-eating illness in the province.
The hashtag #PrayforPangasinan remains the top trending local topic on Twitter as netizens continue to hope for the recovery of those affected by the alleged flesh-eating illness.
On the other hand, some noted how the disease is allegedly consistent with the prophecy of a certain Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj, who earlier predicted that a strong typhoon will hit Samar and Leyte.
Clips of his prophecy which he allegedly made in April 2013 have been uploaded on YouTube.
Some netizens expressed fear as the so-called prophecy has become a reality.
A number of Filipino Internet users, however, said there is no reason to panic as they turned to science for an explanation.
Some believe that what is happening in Pangasinan is a case of necrotizing fasciitis, which is defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as “a serious bacterial infection that spreads rapidly and destroy’s the body’s soft tissue.”
Others think it is psoriasis, “a chronic skin problem that causes skin cells to grow too quickly,” according to WebMD.
Meanwhile, some netizens said they refuse to believe in any prophecy, citing their faith in God.
