MANILA, Philippines - (UPDATED) Book author Raul Victor Rodrigo, who also serves as the Lopez family's historian, died in his sleep on Monday morning, his editor said.
An Alcantara said Rodrigo was found dead in his home at 8 a.m., with his family suspecting that he died a couple of hours earlier.
"They (family) are actually surprised by his death. Raul is very much healthy. He's an aikido black belter," Alcantara told ABS-CBNnews.com in a phone interview. "But his family is very strong and determined [to overcome this]."
She said Rodrigo did not die of a massive heart attack as mentioned by one of his friends, adding that the cause of death is still not yet clear.
Rodrigo is survived by his wife Nancy and his two daughters, Isabel and Beatriz Sophia. His body lies in state in Chapel 5 of the Loyola Memorial Chapels in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 3. Alcantara said the family has yet to announce where Rodrigo will be buried.
Rodrigo is known mainly for Kapitan: Geny Lopez and the Making of ABS-CBN, the flagship coffee table book of local multimedia conglomerate ABS-CBN, which is owned by the Lopez family. He also wrote Undaunted: The Lopez Legacy 1800-2010.
