MANILA – It is not only in the Philippines where videos or pictures of cops or traffic enforcers go viral and make news headlines.
Last week, a police officer from Dover, Delaware caught global attention when a video of him singing to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” was uploaded on YouTube by the Dover Police Department.
The officer, who was identified as Master Cpl. Jeff Davis, is seen lip-syncing to Swift’s hit as he was patrolling using his police car.
The video already has more than 20 million views as of writing, getting the attention of many netizens including Swift herself.
In a tweet she posted last Friday, Swift shared the link of the video and said: “LOLOLOLOL THE SASS.”
Quoting Dover Police Cpl. Mark Hoffman, CNN reported that “the goal of the video is to show a different side of police to counter negative perceptions of law enforcement.”
"We're trying to humanize police officers. People tend to look at us as robots with uniforms and gun belts so we wanted to a show a lighter side of our force," he said.
"I think it's important for people to see police in that light."
Hoffman said David agreed to lip-sync “Shake It Off” since his 10-year-old daughter loves Swift.
