MANILA - "I am grateful that as we have mistakes following us forever, we also have goodness that can follow us forever."

These were the words of Carelle Mangaliag, the original singer of "Tell The World of His Love" along with Jeff Arcilla, as she looked back on performing the iconic song in front of Pope Saint John Paul II.

Written by Trina Belamide, the tune about discipleship was the official theme song of 1995 World Youth Day, which concluded at Rizal Park in Manila with some five million people singing in unison.

"Tell The World of His Love" was once again performed at the conclusion of another papal mass on Sunday, this time presided by Pope Francis as part of his five-day apostolic visit to the Philippines.

Shortly after the record-setting event with an estimated 6 million in attendance, Mangaliag took to Facebook to reflect on her decision to interpret "Tell The World of His Love" for a songwriting competition.

"There are people who have made a simple mistake in their life and it haunts them and follows them forever. And there are people who have said a simple yes to something and it follows them too for the rest of their lives," said Mangaliag.

Referring to her recording of the song, she continued: "This is something I have said yes to in 1995, because then it was just another racket, I didn't have a singing career. It was just something to do."

"When I was told it will be for the pope, I just thought, 'Oh, cool,' without realizing then... Until I stood in front of the five million people. I said , 'Oh, God... Why me?'"

Mangaliag, who now heads a motivational marketing company, said she considers taking up the song one of the best decisions she has made. "And till now, I am thankful. I am still grateful that as we have mistakes following us forever, we also have goodness that can follow us forever."

This year, "Tell The World of His Love" was performed at three separate papal events, including the record-setting mass at Luneta. It was also sung by "The Voice Kids" champion Lyca Gairanod and her runner-up, Darren Espanto, during Pope Francis' meeting with Filipino families and the youth, respectively.
