MANILA, Philippines - An online tussle between students of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) and the University of the Philippines (UP) on the difficulties of their respective schools’ entrance exams caused the topic “UPCAT” to locally trend on Twitter.
A post on the unofficial UPCAT (UP College Admissions Test) page on Facebook by page administrators on January 8 triggered violent reactions from UST students.
The post said, “Lumabas na pala ang results ng USTET (UST Entrance Test), walang thrill kasi madali lang naman nun. Last week pa ng February ang results ng UPCAT – walang kasing hirap kaya sulit ang paghihintay! ;)”
As of posting time, it had 326 shares and 626 comments on Facebook, and page administrators had made no new posts.
Conversations today crossed over to Twitter, causing the topic to trend. While some people continued to argue over the virtues of their respective schools, others made snide remarks about Internet trolls and online “nega” or troublemaking.
Some netizens wondered why the topic “UPCAT” was trending, and asked if it was because exam results had been released.
According to the UP Office of Admissions, UPCAT results may come out in late February, though they cannot yet give a tentative date of release.
