MANILA, Philippines - As news about natural disasters and an impeachment trial continued to be highlighted in social media networks earlier this morning, buzz about the Department of Tourism’s new slogan spread on Twitter.
Netizens speculated about the DOT’s new tourism slogan, and encouraged others to tweet good things about the Philippines.
The agency is set to release its new tourism slogan and logo on Friday.
According to a tweet by tourism secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr., “The new tourism line answers the basic question, ‘Why go to the Philippines?’”
“[It] will be more competitive than just an adjective. It is going to be an expression, drawn from natural conversation…that [will] translate to market share.”
As of posting time, “Philippines” was at tenth place in WhatTheTrend.com’s trending list for the Philippines, while “Compostela Valley” was at third. A landslide had occurred in the area earlier today, triggering concerned posts from people online.
The DOT has yet to announce an official campaign hashtag, so netizens are using their own to generate buzz on Twitter. The tags range from guesses on what the new tourism line will be to invitations to help the DOT.
In 2010, the DOT received mixed reviews for its “Pilipinas Kay Ganda” slogan, which many Filipinos said was not as good as the “WOW Philippines” tagline.
