PH wins Miss Earth 2017

The Philippines’ Karen Ibasco was named Miss Earth 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena last November, making her the country’s fourth winner.

A medical physicist, Ibasco’s advocacy is conserving energy and embracing renewable sources of it.

Daniel Matsunaga’s top model girlfriend

Polish model Karolina Pisarek became a hot topic among Filipinos after it was revealed that she is Daniel Matsunaga’s new girlfriend.

Pisarek is also a celebrity in her own right, boasting of more than half a million followers. She finished runner-up in the fifth season of “Poland’s Next Top Model” back in 2015.

Winwyn Marquez stayed true to her nickname as she brought home the Philippines’ first Reina Hispanoamericana crown.

The daughter of actors Joey Marquez and Alma Moreno is the first Filipina to join the Latina-dominated pageant.


Laura Lehmann represents PH in Miss World

Many Filipinos had high hopes for former courtside reporter Laura Lehmann, who represented the country in Miss World 2017 last November in China.

Unfortunately, she was only able to make it to the Top 40 of the pageant, which was first won by the Philippines’ Megan Young in 2013.


Kiray Celis’ rumored boyfriend

Actress Kiray Celis had Filipino netizens talking for days after she was spotted with model-actor Kirst Viray.

The two, who even starred in a modern fairy tale-themed fashion shoot, have yet to confirm or deny their relationship.

Xander Ford’s makeover

The Internet was set ablaze this year with the debut of Xander Ford – otherwise known as Marlou Arizala – with a pointed nose, an extended chin, straight teeth and thicker brows.

His transformation cost about P435,000 based on estimates, with the amount mostly covered by sponsors.

Miss Universe in Manila

The Miss Universe pageant was held twice in 2017. Maxine Medina represented the Philippines in the 65th edition of the pageant held last January in Manila, finishing in the Top 6.

Rachel Peters, meanwhile, flew to Las Vegas last November for the Miss Universe 2017, where she reached the Top 10.
