On her birthday on Christmas day, Krina Punsalan Cayabyab received a special gift — she got engaged. Her boyfriend, stage actor Stephen Viñas, proposed to the eldest child of maestro Ryan Cayabyab and wife Emmy.

It was Krina’s dad who posted the moment on Facebook on Christmas night.

“It’s Krina’s birthday celebration, plus another milestone that’s even more momentous,” Cayabyab wrote. “We are happy and equally excited for her and Stephen.”

There was a photo of Cayabyab with the couple, Krina wearing an engagement ring on her right hand.

Cayabyab’s post was immediately flooded with congratulatory messages.

Singer Celeste Legaspi, Krina’s godmother, readily asked, “Aba! Is my inaanak about to take the plunge? So happy for you all.”

Stage actress Luna Grino-Inocian asked, “Did Tepen put a ring on it?”, to which Cayabyab replied, “Yazz.”

Among the celebrities who congratulated the couple on Facebook included Lea Salonga, Rachel Alejandro, Jed Madela, Bullet Dumas, Trina Belamide, Sheila Francisco, OJ Mariano, Popo Suanes, Raymund Concepcion, Jungee Marcelo, Zebedee Zuniga, Edward Granadosin, Gigi Posadas Daniels, Eladio Pamaran, Lorrie Illustre, Girlie Rodis, Joel Navarro, Dennis Marasigan, Elise Goloy Cortez and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo.

Krina, whose real name is Cristina Maria, is the eldest of two children of Cayabyab and his wife; the younger one is Antonio Maria, or fondly called “Toma.”

Viñas, meanwhile, is a Theater Arts graduate also from UP. Last July, he joined the cast of “Ang Huling El Bimbo” at Resorts World Manila.

In 2008, Krina joined Baihana, a singing trio with Mel Torre and Anna Achacoso. The group remains active up to this day.

In 2010, Krina graduated Bachelor in Music Major in Chorale Conducting, summa cum laude. That same year, Krina started teaching voice and music theory at The Music School of Ryan Cayabyab. She is also an instructor and faculty member at the UP Art Studies Department

In 2014, Krina wrote her first full-length musical, “Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini,” presented by Dulaang UP.
