With Catriona Gray’s “lava walk” and “slow-mo twirl,” and with supermodels lauding her Miss Universe win, the Filipina beauty queen may just make a big splash in the international fashion scene, at least according to Vogue.
The top fashion magazine, through its online portal, featured Gray’s pageant win on Tuesday, specifically her “runway stomp worthy of fashion month.”
The glowing feature mentioned reactions from American supermodels Tyra Banks, who called Gray’s performance “next level fierce,” and Ashley Graham, one of the pageant co-hosts who said post-show that the Filipina “deserves the crown.”
“With a title under her belt and the glowing endorsement of two of modeling’s biggest names, Gray may find herself an in-demand commodity once shows start—if you think a viral moment can’t translate into fashion success, you haven’t been paying attention the last few years,” author Janelle Okwodu wrote.

Even prior to coronation day on December 17, Gray’s “slow-mo twirl” had already generated wide buzz on social media. That was the first time Banks, best known for her international “Top Model” TV series, noticed Gray’s runway form.
Pointing out that Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere has modeled for French haute couture designer Jean Paul Gaultier, the Vogue feature added it “may only be a matter of time before the lava walk hits the runway” in Milan or Paris.
