MANILA – “Give credit where credit is due.”

Beauty queen mentor Jonas Gaffud made this statement on Monday as he shared on Instagram a photo of the team that helped Catriona Gray win the Philippines’ fourth Miss Universe crown.

Gray can be seen in the photo along with designers Mak Tumang and Jojo Bragais, mentor Carlos Buendia Jr., casting director Harley Tan, and stylists Ton Lao and Brent Sales, to name a few.

Gaffud, who served as Gray’s mentor in Miss World 2016 where she finished in the Top 5, was not part of the photo.

“Huge congratulations should go to the team that helped Catriona in her Miss Universe bid,” he said, adding, “I thank you.”

Commenting on Gaffud’s Instagram post, many netizens praised the beauty queen mentor for his humility.

Others, meanwhile, said Gaffud also played a huge role in Gray’s journey to the Miss Universe crown.

“Also to you, [Jonas] for you are part of Catriona’s growth in pageantry. Salamat din,” one pageant fan said.

It is no secret that Gray left Gaffud’s Aces and Queens camp after her Miss World loss and signed up as an independent candidate in Binibining Pilipinas, the national pageant that allowed her to represent the country in Miss Universe.

From there, she handpicked all of the members of her team.

Gaffud is considered one of the Philippines’ top beauty queen mentors, having helped in the campaigns of Pia Wurtzbach (Miss Universe 2015), Megan Young (Miss World 2013), and Kylie Verzosa (Miss International 2016), among others.
