The "living coral" symbolizes "our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits," said Pantone of its pick for the 2019 color of the year.
The US company, an authority in the design industry, explained its decision as a "reaction to the onslaught of the digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life."
"We are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy," according to Pantone, adding that the color "encourages lighthearted activity" with its "engaging nature."
Of what it looks like, Pantone described the living coral as "an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge."
It follows ultraviolet, which was named the 2018 color of the year.
"Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities and this is particularly true of the living coral," said Pantone executive director Leatrice Eiseman.
"With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial living coral hits a responsive chord."
