MANILA -- Last year, Catriona Gray wore an ear cuff inspired by the three stars and the sun of our national flag when she won the Miss Universe title.
For this year's edition of the competition, our representative Gazini Ganados will be wearing something a tiny bit different on her ear, though she'll no doubt be looking to get the same results.
As revealed this Monday by jewelry designer Kathryn Fanlo, Ganados will be donning earrings dubbed "Watawat," that bears, not only the three stars and the sun, but also the colors of the national flag.
According to Fanlo, who also designed Ganados' other accessories that she's been wearing for the pre-pageant activities, the "Watawat" earrings were made in Davao.
It symbolizes "peace, unity, and Filipino pride."
She wrote as the caption: "Made these customized PH flag inspired earrings specially for [Ganados]. Thank you for helping promote local talent and showing the rest of the world our rich culture."
Ganados is hoping to claim a back-to-back win for the Philippines, following the reign of the 2018 titlist, Catriona Gray.
Should Ganados achieve the feat, the Philippines will become only the second country to have back-to-back winning representatives in Miss Universe, after Venezuela’s 2008 and 2009 reigns.
