MANILA – Two beauty queens reacted to allegations that Philippine bet Rachel Peters lost in the Miss Universe 2017 pageant as a result of “pageant camp wars” in the country.
Peters trained under the Kagandahang Flores pageant camp, the rival of Aces and Queens which has produced the likes of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, one of the judges in this year’s Miss Universe pageant.
Miss World 2013 Megan Young, who is also with Aces and Queens, stressed that they support the country’s representatives in international pageants regardless of their affiliation.
“Rachel, you made us proud. Now, let’s stop these ‘camp wars.’ There is no such thing amongst us,” Young said.
“Yes, we train with different groups but we respect one another and we give our support however we can. It is always for the Philippines,” she added.
Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann agreed with Young, saying that “Filipinas support Filipinas regardless of camp, regardless of organization.”
“We are always stronger when we are united,” said Lehmann, who also trained under Aces and Queens.
Peters finished in the Top 10 of Miss Universe 2017, which was won by Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Peters said she is thankful for her experience in Miss Universe, saying it is her “greatest achievement to date.”
