Almost a decade since ABS-CBN News embraced YouTube as a platform for uploading and sharing news content for the benefit of Filipinos worldwide, the outfit's YouTube channel hit 5 million subscribers this November.
The 5 million mark ensured at least 1 million more subscribers from the country and around the world since May 2018—at least a 20 percent increase in the number of subscribers for the past seven months.
ABS-CBN News also continues to inform more than 5.92 million followers on Twitter, and more than 1 million followers on the photo sharing platform Instagram.
Since October 2009, YouTube.com/ABSCBNNews has maintained leadership in terms of subscriber base among Philippine news channels on the video platform, posting breaking news reports from Channel 2, DZMM TeleRadyo, ANC, the network's regional channels, and other engaging content from ABS-CBN current affairs programs.
ABS-CBN News' social media presence, meanwhile, is part of its larger-scale effort to serve the public through digital means, which its chairman Mark Lopez identified as essential for the company to contribute to the betterment of Filipinos worldwide.
"We understand what the company means to the Filipino and this country, and we will take this to heart as we guide the company through its digital transformation," Lopez said upon his election to the company’s board in April.
Last June, ABS-CBN Entertainment's YouTube channel was awarded the Diamond Creator Award from the video streaming service after reaching 10 million subscribers— making it the first Filipino and third Southeast Asian YouTube channel to do so.
Data from social video analytics platform Tubular in May showed ABS-CBN as the most viewed Philippine and 32nd most viewed international online content creator, topping global media companies such as CNN, Buzzfeed Video, and Bleacher Report, among others.
