MANILA - Here are some of the events, shows, and activities you can check out this weekend.
1. 'Matilda the Musical'
When: November 10 to December 10
Where: Meralco Theater
The acclaimed musical "Matilda" is finally in Manila with this production by Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group.
Playing the title role are Esang De Torres, Uma Naomi Martin, and Felicity Kyle Napuli. Jamie Wilson is set to play Miss Trunchbull, Cris Villonco as Miss Honey, and Joaquin Valdes and Carla Guevara-Laforteza as the Wormwood couple.
"Matilda" is based on the book by Roald Dahl and tells the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life.
2. Park Hyung Sik First Love in Manila
When: November 11
Where: Kia Theater, Cubao, Quezon City
Korean star Park Hyung Sik will have his first solo fan meet in Manila.
Aside from being a member of the all-male K-Pop group ZE:A, he is also known for starring in K-dramas such as "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" and "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth."
3. 'I Remember A Boy'
When: November 11 to 12
Where: Arts Above, West Venue Bldg., 112 West Avenue, Quezon City
Artist Playground’s Playlist Track 2 presents this original musical revue featuring classic OPM hits.
Made by millennials for millennials, "I Remember A Boy" is about a group of friends who reunite at a cafe they once frequented when they were still college students.
It features six young performing artists Kathleen Francisco, Cathrine Go, Philippe Go, Joe Henson, Mariella Laurel, and Miko Manguba, under the musical direction of Jesse Lucas.
4. 13th Philippine Komiks Convention
When: November 11
Where: Bayanihan Center, Unilab Compound, Pasig City
The biggest komiks event of the year is set to take place this weekend.
Get up close and personal with online comics icon Ivyree Rosario of Little Things PH, socio-political comics creator Emiliana Kampilan of Dead Balagtas, and international comic artist Jethro Morales of Green Hornet, Vampirella, Dejah Thoris, and more.
Visitors can grab a copy of new comic book titles to be launched at Komikon 2017 such as “Kikomachine XIII” by Manix Abrera, “Bakokak” by Gerry Alanguilan and Kevin Ray Valentino, “Doorkeeper: A Graphic Novel” by Scott and Ethan Chua, “Hari ng Komyut” and “Sandali” by Anino Comics, and many more.
They can also commission sketches and drawings from their favorite Filipino comics creators such as Mico Suayan, Ed Tadeo, Ryan Pasibe, Eman Casallos, Miguel Mercado, Roy Allan Martinez, Jomar Bulda, Geebo Vigonte, and Elmer Damaso.
On top of these, panel talks will be held by komiks artists, with topics ranging from building one’s portfolio to writing stories.
One-day tickets cost P100 per person.
