CEBU - For Cebuana model Apriel Smith, her 22nd birthday was extra special, as it came with nothing less than a beauty pageant crown.
Smith was crowned the first-ever Bb. Cebu, past midnight on Sunday, which was also her birthday.
The event was held at the Pacific Grand Ballroom in Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on Saturday evening.
Smith, who represented the Municipality of Badian, wowed the crowd with her response during the final question and answer portion of the competition.
The question for her was: “What important life lesson should every millennial learn and why?”
Smith answered that her father's death changed her perspective on life. She said that learning to value time with family and loved ones was an important lesson everyone should learn.
"Because we never know when our time is up," she said.
Smith also won the Best in Swimsuit award.
As the first-ever Bb. Cebu, Smith brought home P500,000 cash and P300,000 in gifts. Her municipality will also receive P200,000.
In 2016, Smith represented Cebu at the Binibining Pilipinas and made it to the top 15.
First runner-up was Ingrid Gerodias of Minglanilla while Danao City's Kathleen Lendio was second runner-up.
The chairman of the panel of judges, ABS-CBN Chief Content Officer Charo Santos-Concio hailed the event as a success.
Adding to the night's grandeur were some Kapamilya guests such as James Reid and Richard Yap.
The pageant was hosted by Edu and Luis Manzano along with Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry.
