MANILA -- Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group will be staging two award-winning works for its 20th anniversary season in 2019.
First up is Tony Kushner's "Angels in America: Millenium Approaches," the first of the two-part Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning play.
Set in 1980s New York City, "Angels in America: Millenium Approaches" tells the story of a gay man abandoned by his lover when he contracts the AIDS virus, and a closeted Mormon lawyer's marriage to his pill-popping wife stalls.
Atlantis’ artistic director Bobby Garcia will be directing the production.
"What a thrill it is for us to launch our 20th anniversary with what I believe is the greatest play written in my lifetime," he said.
The full cast for "Angels in America" will be announced soon.
The show will run from March 22 to April 7, 2019 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza in Makati.
Come June, Atlantis will be staging "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical." It is the inspiring true story of King's remarkable journey from teenage songwriter to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee.
The musical will feature unforgettable classics such as "You've Got a Friend," "One Fine Day," "So Far Away," "Take Good Care of My Baby," "Up on the Roof," "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling," "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," and "Natural Woman."
“We are so proud that 'Beautiful' will join 'Angels in America' as part of our 20th anniversary season next year," Garcia said.
"Beautiful" will run from June to July. Exact dates, venue, and cast will be announced at a later date.
