MANILA -- Whisky takes center stage once again in the second installment of Whisky Live Manila happening on October 20-21 at the Shangri-La at the Fort in Taguig.

In this sampling event, which opens at 5 p.m. and runs all the way up to midnight, ticket holders can taste whiskeys from around the world from Dalmore to Kavalan and Macallan, among others.

During the recent launch of the event, Johnssen Li of Grand Cru Wines and Spirits, organizers of Whisky Live Manila, gave an introduction to this year’s event, which carries the theme, "the art of whisky."

He said Whisky Live ticket holders can try 10 new brands, as well as watch a live cocktail-making competition. The contest is a culmination of a mentorship program between selected universities and brands like Johnny Walker, Chivas Regal, and Monkey Shoulder, among others, to foster and increase the students’ knowledge about whisky.

Pocket sessions and various activities have also been prepared by exhibitors, including much-anticipated masterclass sessions by international whisky experts invited by Whisky Live Manila.

While whisky is still the star of the show, Whisky Live Manila will also feature other types of liquor.

“Although the event’s name is Whisky Live, I made it a point like last year that about maximum 20% of the brands that will participate can be non-whisky. Last year, I invited Don Papa Rum, I invited Cordero Tequila, then I invited Lakan, and Lakan (a brand of Filipino lambanog) recently won a lot of international awards. I also invited Tanduay for their rum,” Li shared.
