MANILA – One of the fashion highlights in last March’s Binibining Pilipinas 2018 pageant was Catriona Gray’s “patriotic” ear cuff, which resembled the symbols in the Philippine flag.

In the recently concluded Miss World Philippines 2018 beauty contest, there was another fashion item that screams Filipino pride.

Designed by Benj Leguiab IV, the royal blue gown of Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez had an interesting back detail – a map of the Philippine islands.

Here’s a look:

In an Instagram post, Alvarez said she collaborated with Leguiab for the design of her evening gown.

“I told him that I wanted my gown to show my love for the Philippines, and he was able to come up with this beautiful gown that did just that,” she said.

Leguiab, for his part, said: “I put so much love and passion for this royal blue gown with the Philippine island map on it as a sign of patriotism. It is one of the best gowns I ever made for [Alyssa].”

During the Miss World Philippines pageant, Alvarez was crowned Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2018, succeeding Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez. She also won a number of special awards.

Katarina Rodriguez won Miss World Philippines 2018 as well as Best in Long Gown, among other special awards.
