MANILA – Leren Mae Bautista is definitely serious about bringing home her second crown for the Philippines, if we are to look at her national costume for Miss Globe 2019.
Binibining Pilipinas has released photos of Bautista’s Maranao princess ensemble, complete with a jade-encrusted dome headdress and a pair of fans.
On Instagram, designer Chico Estiva described the national costume he created for Bautista.
“A harvest of gold comes to life in this Maranaoan princess ensemble usually worn by royalty for a bountiful harvest,” he said. “[The costume comes in] opulent hues of red, gold, emerald, and purple, [and] hundreds and thousands of brass coiled ornaments sewn to form fringes that mimic the sway of the grass.”
Estiva went on: “The national costume also features a dome headdress inspired by the mosques of Mindanao, encrusted in jade of emerald and celadon shade, and a pair of fans resembling the golden rice grains of Mindanao.”
The Miss Globe 2019 coronation night will take place at Holiday Villages in Montenegro on October 21.
During her sendoff press conference early this month, Bautista said she is aiming for the Miss Globe crown after winning Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International in 2015.
The Philippines has yet to win in Miss Globe. Last year’s representative, volleyball star Michele Gumabao, finished in the Top 15 of the pageant.
