MANILA – The Philippines’ main tourism centerpiece was once again recognized by Conde Nast Traveler in its 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards.
Boracay, which reopened to visitors in October 2018 after a six-month rehabilitation, was voted by readers of the travel magazine as the best island in Asia.
Also part of the list are the local spots Cebu and Visayas islands which came in second, and Palawan which ranked fourth.
Penang in Malaysia (third) and Bali in Indonesia rounded out the Top 5.
“This itty-bitty island (just under four square miles) in the Western Philippines is as close to a tropical idyll as you’ll find in Southeast Asia, with gentle coastlines and made-for-Instagram sunsets,” Conde Nast Traveler said of Boracay in an article published on October 7.
“The aptly named White Beach is Boracay’s main draw, with powdery white sand and shallow azure water ideal for swimming and snorkeling.”
Conde Nast Traveler’s latest survey for its Readers’ Choice Awards featured a record 600,000 voters.
The travel magazine opted to name the best islands according to region – Asia, Australia and the South Pacific, Caribbean and the Atlantic, Europe, North America, Africa and the Indian Ocean – instead of coming out with a single list.
