As an example that it is never late to marry, a stage 4 cancer patient married her fiance in the hospital in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.
Kim Bautista, 28, married her fiance for two years, Leonardo Garcia Jr., whom she met in Bani, Pangasinan.
Kim, who suffers from cervical cancer, was the teacher of her new husband's nephew. Garcia noticed her in 2017 and talked to her on social media, and their love started there.
"Wala pa kasi akong girlfriend nu'n tapos yung pamangkin ko teacher niya si Kim, tapos inadd ko siya sa Facebook. Nagchat kami at doon na nagsimula hanggang sa nagdate na kami," Garcia told ABS-CBN News.
Garcia proposed to Kim in 2018 in what should have been a completely happy year for the couple. However, it was also in that year that they learned Kim already had stage-2 cervical cancer.
But Garcia resolved to stay with Kim.
"Hindi ako umalis sa tabi niya mahal ko siya. Laban lang," Garcia said.
Kim's illness grew worse, and her cancer developed to stage 4. But her family, although more worried than before, does not want Kim to give up from fighting for survival.
"Sabi ko 'Anak 'di ba fighter ka? Laban lang, kaya natin ito. Gagawin natin lahat. Walang susuko,'" said Susan, Kim's mother.
Kim's frequent hospital visits and confinement forced the couple to have the wedding at the hospital chapel.
Although in a wheelchair and has trouble speaking, Kim went on to marry the man of her dreams and say, "I do."
