MANILA – Going on a boat tour in El Nido, Palawan this September? Make sure you don’t have a single-use plastic bag or bottled water with you.
The local government of El Nido has banned bringing single-use plastic products on boat tours in an effort to preserve Palawan’s waters.
Tourists, boat captains, and boat crew members are encouraged to bring reusable containers instead.
The ban will take effect on Saturday, September 1.
In a statement released early this month, El Nido Mayor Nieves Rosento noted that their Oplan Linis Group collected 30 sacks of plastic trash from islands included in their boat tours from August 13 to 17.
