Ballerinas embody grace, strength, and flexibility. Most of them are taught how to perfectly move their legs even before they learn how to read. Ballet requires enormous dedication and discipline.
But for Rosita Gomez, or Lola Menchie to many, 71 is as good as any age to learn the ropes of ballet. Though she doesn't consider dancing as her passion, just something to keep her fit and healthy. But due to her age, she was prohibited from performing pointe as it may cause irreparable impact on her body.
Lola Menchie did not let herself be disheartened. She joined other dance classes instead. At present, she does jazz, tap, aerial hoop, and even pole dancing. Nevertheless, ballet will always be her first love. She has been doing it for 12 years now.
Most people her age would probably prefer to rest in the convenience of their homes, but Menchie wants to keep moving.
She believes that she gets her courage and energy from her faith in God and from the conviction that she can always succeed with everything she puts her heart into. Age has nothing to do with it.
Witness the grace of her movement on Mukha, Wednesday at 6:30 P.M. only on ANC.
