MANILA -- This couple spends their time taking care of stray dogs and cats in an animal shelter in Aklan.

Jenny May Irineo and Given Gumban are caretakers in the Aklan Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (AARRC), an animal shelter which takes care not only of stray dogs and cats, but also disabled animals.

According to Irineo, taking animals out of the streets not only protects the animal itself, but is also beneficial to those in the community.

"'Pag tinulungan mo 'yung mga aso't pusa, parang natutulungan mo rin 'yung mga tao. Kasi, iwas sa rabies, hindi po ba? Tapos iwas 'yung mga stray dogs sa daan," she said.

They also provide special wheelchairs that can help the disabled animals move and walk.
