MANILA - It's never too late for change.
So said a local official on Sunday whose video went viral for showing inmates in Cebu as they sang Pearl Orient's "Pagsubok" during their graduation rites.
The 1-minute clip uploaded by town councilor Joannes Joyjoy Pepito Alegado featured inmates of the Consolacion Municipal Jail who completed the education department's Alternative Learning System last Monday.
"Laban lang (just fight)," Alegado captioned the video that has garnered 1.4 million views and 22,000 shares.
Speaking to ABS-CBN News' website, Alegado said he reminded the jail's 14 elementary and 20 high school graduates to persevere, stay hopeful, and think about their plans for the future.
"I look forward on the day that we will meet once again outside the jail premises and see them succeed... It's never too late, as long as you have the grit then everything will be possible," he said.
"I also reminded them that we all have our second chances and being here and being alive is an opportunity for us to amend our wrong doings and grow as an individual. We should surrender and give our trust to our Almighty. Let Him be our guide," the official added.
