MANILA -- Kelley Day, who is candidate number 24 in this year's Miss World Philippines pageant, has revealed that she is suffering from alopecia.
A former member of the "It's Showtime" group GirlTrends, Day became teary-eyed as she talked about her advocacy in her introduction video.
According to Day, she wants to raise awareness for autoimmune diseases like psoriasis and alopecia.
She then revealed she has been suffering from alopecia for almost a year now.
"This is the first time I'm opening about my alopecia situation. I have a bald spot at the back of my head," Day said.
"It took me almost a year since I found it in October 2018 to actually deal with it," she added.
Day said it was difficult for her to open up about her condition because of her work as a celebrity.
"I had so much fear and embarrassment about it, especially in my line of work, where I always get my hair styled, people take photos of me all the time, and my advocacy is that I want people to know that it's okay and I want people to know how to deal with it properly with my story," she said.
"I want everyone to feel encouraged to be open about who they are. I want people to see that no one's perfect," Day added.
