MANILA – Michelle Dee is following in the footsteps of her mother, Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez, as she joins a national pageant.
The model has been introduced as one of the official candidates of Miss World Philippines 2019, which sends representatives to Miss World and Reina Hispanoamericana pageant, to name a few.
Dee first expressed her interest in beauty pageants in 2016, when she appeared with her mother on the ABS-CBN morning show “Magandang Buhay.”
“Yes, I do have plans to join. It’s been running through my mind ever since,” she said.
“Nafee-feel ko rin na may potential din sana ako.”
Marquez, for her part, believes her daughter has the makings of a beauty queen, noting Dee’s 5-foot-11 height and her experience as a model.
Dee joins the growing list of celebrities who have joined Miss World Philippines, including Katarina Rodriguez, Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez, Laura Lehmann, and Megan Young, who won the Miss World crown in 2013.
Other former candidates of the national pageant include Catriona Gray, who eventually won Miss Universe in 2018; and Gazini Ganados, who was crowned Miss Universe Philippines this year.
The Miss World Philippines 2019 coronation night will be held on September 8 at the Araneta Coliseum.
