MANILA-- "It's indescribable grief."
This was how United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Artist for Peace Cecile Guidote-Alvarez described losing her husband, former Sen. Heherson Alvarez, to COVID-19 in April.
Guidote-Alvarez, a cancer survivor who also triumphed against COVID-19, said processing the death of a loved one due to the virus is difficult given the lack of goodbyes.
"Hindi lang sa pamilya namin kung 'di sa lahat ng pamilyang apektado ng COVID, it's indescribable grief pagka nawawala ang mahal mo sa buhay bigla tapos 'di mo man lang nakausap, 'di mo man lang nahawakan ang kamay, nahalikan," she said in a virtual press briefing.
"Talagang total isolation. Mahirap ho talaga sa kaisipan, kamalayan," she added.
Guidote-Alvarez said she clung to prayer in processing the death of her husband and reminded people who share her experience to remain grateful for the gift of life.
"Kailangan mo pa rin pasalamatan na buhay ka at maaari ka pa rin na makatulong o ipagpatuloy kung ano man ang inyong shared dreams at programs at para maitaguyod mo pa rin ang pamilya mo," she said.
