White sand beaches, picturesque lakes, and thrilling paragliding are not what would first come to mind when people think about the southernmost provinces of the Philippines. But that is exactly what you will find when you explore the hidden gems of Region 12.
Region 12 as the next destination for travelers
One of the must-visit travel destinations in the region is Lake Sebu, known for its breathtaking view. The area itself has a deep connection to the T’boli people and culture, preserving the tribe’s native songs, dances, and practices – including the famous T’nalak weave.
Travelers also find adventure in the southernmost region of the country. River tubing in Pangi River in Maitum, Sarangani is one popular highlight that never fails to draw in travelers looking for that feeling of exhilaration.
Region 12 is also home to Gumasa beach. Not only is the long stretch of white sand coastline travel-worthy all year round but it is also the site of the Lubi-Lubi and Mahin fests, and the popular annual SarBay Festival, the largest beach party in Mindanao.
If you are lucky enough to be along Sarangani Bay at sunset, watching the sun go down on a clear day may just be the highlight to a trip down south.
The region is home to many more must-see sites such as Asik-Asik Falls, the hot pools of Lake Agco, and the historic Lagbasan Cave. There is also much more to experience, from paragliding in Sarangani to taking the GenSan Tuna Tour; and from daring to ride the Seven Falls Zipline to exploring the species at Baras Bird Sanctuary.
There is so much to see, taste, and experience across the southernmost provinces of the Philippines.
Department of Tourism brings Region 12 to the forefront
The Department of Tourism has supported the growth of the local cultural and travel scenes in recent years with the Treasures of SOX Travel and Trade Expo, an event that showcases the region to potential travelers and business investors.
Region 12 - SOCCSKSARGEN, locally known as SOX, consists of the provinces of South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City.
